My two-year-old drops the F-bomb

Damn it. I think he gets it from his dad.
Jokes aside, we rarely curse… I can’t believe THIS is the word he decides to mimic. My husband had been telling me that Tavin, my son, was saying the F word, but I kept telling him he must be mistaken. Then I heard it for myself, perfectly enunciating the “fff” and the “ckkk.”
This all took place as we (my husband, son and I) were jammed in like sardines at a Paradise Bakery. You know what I’m talking about… The tables are so close the person next to you has to rub their butt across the side of your table to get to theirs. Well anyway, we just got our food and as I started to unwrap his sandwich, my sweet little boy YELLED fuck, fuck, FUCK! …and then a few more F-bombs as I tried to compose myself like a kid with the giggles at church.
I was speechless! I was the mom with the unruly child! What do you say to that? …”Oh honey, where ever did you learn to say such a word?!”
Now it’s a regular, daily occurrence to hear him drop F-bombs. In fact, this morning I heard him saying it through the monitor first thing when he woke up. I really don’t think he actually knows what he’s saying or how to use it because he says it when he’s happy, mad, pointing at something, walking around, jibber jabbing… whatever. I’ve tried “replacing” the word in his vocabulary by correcting him to say FUN, but it’s barely working.
Does anyone else have a sailor-mouthed child or have dealt with a situation like this before? How can I fix this?! I really don’t want to get a note home from Sunday school…

Andy, too funny. Love your post.
Marina, Caleb’s childcare provider, said to me one day that she thought he said “Shit” while watching his #2 get flushed down the toilet. I have yet to hear him say that and don’t think he really knows what it even means, but I had to laugh and then wonder if he learned that word from me or Sean.
But OMG, I totally feel your situation at PB. Wish I had words of wisdom for you on how to deal with it all. Keep trying to get it out of his vocabulary, but have this feeling that it’s not going anywhere.

ha ha I thought that was totally hilarious, only because my darling little two year old has also dropped the big f bomb. It is so hard to hold back the laughter. Neither her dad or I say that much, probably never but still we find our little Lola busting it out and she knew exactly how to use it. We were driving away from Dads house when I realized we forgot the beloved blankie I said “Oh no Lola should we go back and get it?” Lola so casually replies ” Ah fuck it Mom.” I calmly say “excuse me?” “Fuck it” once again spews out like a dagger. I try my best to stay calm and say “I think you mean, it’s ok Mom I don’t need it. “Yeah” Lola agrees. Still not knowing where she learned it I found the best approach to be not to make a big deal about it. If it gets attention they will do it more. I just give her new words to replace her statement and she only remembers that. Man I sure would love to hear T boy say it. It just sounds so funny in a babies mouth.
