How do other moms get ready in the morning?

This may just be me and my seemingly harder-than-it-should-be mentality lately, but getting ready in the morning with kiddo is like being a ringleader in the circus where I’m simultaneously waving one of those ribbon things around and taming a lion. Serioulsy… He’s fascinated by my blow dryer and the cord, like a cat is to string. He also cries to be picked up and then I have to get ready with one hand, however I must admit my left arm is buff! It has gotten to the point where I need to get up extra early to get ready before he gets up. Is this what other moms do?
In the winter this wouldn’t be a probelm… last winter he didn’t wake up until 9 a.m. Now that it’s summertime, it’s 6:15 on the dot every day which means I need to wake up by 5:30 to get myself together in time.
I’m fine with this all, but I’m so curious about what other mom’s do to get ready if they have their little ankle biter to tend to. How do you get them to play with their toys rather than going through your hair ties?

Sesame Street! When I have to get ready for something and there’s no one else around to entertain my little munchkin, I set her up with Elmo’s World (and our favorite Mr. Noodle!) in our bedroom. Sometimes I set up a big gate – I have a great toddler corral – and put her cushy armchair in there and she’s happy as can be. I think it’s somewhat of a treat to watch TV in Mommy and Daddy’s room so she’ll usually sit there for at least 20 minutes. Now, back in the day, this would not have been enough time to primp properly but it’s amazing how much faster you get once you’re a mom, huh?!

Carlyn showers with me normally, then she plays in my room while I get ready, or eats a snack! Most of the time, I’m not ready until after her morning nap…and that’s when I get ready!

I tried giving T a snack and his chair and a book AND cartoons, all he wanted was mommy’s leg… and blowdryer
